Janelle Brown wants what’s fair.
The IndexbitSister Wives star is opening up about her complicated finances in the wake of her 2022 split from ex Kody Brown.
As Janelle revealed in the Sept. 22 episode of the TLC series, the financial assets of Kody’s only remaining and sole legal wife, Robyn Brown, remain up for debate as all four wives—including his now-exes Christine Brown and Meri Brown—contributed to the downpayment of Robyn’s home in Flagstaff, Arizona. Janelle alleges Kody wouldn’t allow Janelle to put her name on the home’s mortgage at the time.
“When I put the money into the house, I said, ‘Well, I think it would be fair if all of our names were on the mortgage,’” Janelle recalls to her and Kody’s daughter Madison Brush. “And he's like, ‘No, no, we need to protect, you know, protect Robyn's estate. She needs to have it so it's hers and so it's ours.’”
So, in the wake of her split from Kody, Janelle would “like to recoup some of the money” she contributed to Robyn’s home.
However, in her confessional, Robyn says the lines are too blurred when it comes to who is owed what within the family. “We were working together for so long, and we didn't actually stop working together until, you know, just recently,” she explained. “When Janelle's bringing up that Kody and I owe her something, it's like, how do you, how do you calculate? How do you figure that out? It's so confusing.”
And after Janelle accuses Kody of avoiding talking to her about Coyote Pass and their shared assets, he agrees, saying, “I’m tired of disclosing information that goes through the gossip mill of our broken family.”
However, at an impasse, Janelle suggests she may end up having to take legal action.
“We’ve got to pay it off, and he's not talking to me about it,” Janelle says of Coyote Pass. “So I think I'm going to have to lawyer up, I think, because I think that's the only way I'm ever going to get any kind of decision out of him.”
As for why Kody has avoided talk of Coyote Pass, Janelle suggests he has “other debts” he has to pay off first.
“But yet I've watched him add,” she tells Madison. “Like, he keeps buying assets that he sits on trailers and blah, blah and blah, blah, blah. I see all the art on their walls. I see all these things, and that’s fine. I have money and we spend it on things too.”
However, while drama over the Flagstaff home is playing out on the latest season of Sister Wives, which was filmed in late 2022, on Aug. 29 Kody and Robyn’s home was put on the market for $1.65 million.
The property has not been sold to date according to realtor.com. As to whether Janelle has been able to financially untangle herself from Kody and Robyn in the time since the episode was filmed, that remains to be seen.
E! News has reached out to reps for Kody and Robyn for comment on the sale of Robyn’s home as well as a rep for Janelle on whether she was able to recoup her losses and has not heard back.
